Dr. Kathleen Aviso is recognized for her contributions to environmental research using mathematical models. She is developing mathematical models for designing sustainable industrial systems, in which created low-carbon energy technologies to the optimal allocation of human resources during climatic disruptions. Dr. Aviso also created a model based on game theory to simulate and optimize how governments can influence the industry to invest in green technologies in 2010 which still remains relevant to current sustainability issues today.

Dr. Joseph Aureresenia is recognized of his outstanding contributions to the mathematical modelling of biofilms and their application to bioreactors. He has studied intensively the dynamic behaviour of biofilms as applied in bioreactors to treat domestic and hazardous industrial wastes. His studies have contributed to a better understanding of biofilm structure, microbial ecology as well as the biochemical reactions occurring inside the biofilms. His mathematical models of the biochemical reaction kinetics in biofilms have led to better understanding of the dynamic behaviour of the system. The models are used as the basis for the design of wastewater treatment plants treating hazardous wastes such as polychlorinated biphenyls, chlordane, and other perticides nd chemicals banned under Stockholm Convention.
